Boris Becker kicks off Academy in Hessen

Boris Becker wants to open an academy in Hochheim, Germany. The starting shot should fall in the spring of the coming year.

Tennis icon Boris Becker wants to help his sport in Germany in a new role to old shine. The six-time Grand Slam winner gave the starting signal for a new academy in Hochheim in Hesse on Thursday. The "Boris Becker International Tennis Academy" is intended to provide talented young players with optimal conditions. The opening of the Academy, for which about 20 million euros will be invested, is scheduled for spring 2021.

"I see myself as a patron, and wherever Boris Becker is on it, Boris Becker must also be there," said Becker at a press conference in Wiesbaden. According to this, he would let his philosophy flow into the training work, and around 30 tennis teachers will work at the academy. The idea came from Wiesbaden-based real estate entrepreneur Khaled Ezzedine, who contacted Becker and decisively pushed the project forward.

The offer is aimed at young people from the 6th grade from all over the world, who can apply for admission and can also take their Abitur at the academy. The costs for interested parents will be around 50,000 euros per year.

Largest indoor tennis hall in the world

On a total of 48,000 square meters, a site is being built, including several outdoor spaces, a hotel and the affiliated Boris Becker Museum. In addition, the world's largest indoor tennis hall will be part of the site with 21 seats. "Tennis lives in Germany, so we are convinced that the project will be a success," said Becker.

Most recently, Becker was again in the headlines due to his financial situation. The UK bankruptcy board said on Tuesday that certain conditions will be extended to the 51-year-old until 16 October 2031. Becker had disclosed financial transactions before and after the insolvency proceedings "of at least 4.5 million pounds (about 5.2 million euros) not disclosed in Wiesbaden Becker.
