Félix Auger-Aliassime impressed in every respect in Málaga

Novak Djokovic stopped by Málaga on Sunday, and the best player in the world also had his son Stefan with him. What Djokovic saw? A Félix Auger-Aliassime who basically followed in his footsteps. And always played particularly well when it was necessary. Just like the score of 3:2 in round two, where "FAA" turned a 0:40 on his own serve.

Alex de Minaur did what he always does: the Australian ran one ball after the other, occasionally making offensive signals with his backhand along the line. But there was nothing to win against Auger-Aliassime after his 87th singles match of the 2022 season.

The four-time tournament winner this year served to win the match after a playing time of 97 minutes, trailing again by 0:30. And still made the Canadians' first Davis Cup triumph clear with four points in a row.

Shapovalov puts Canada ahead

In the first single Denis Shapovalov had asserted himself against Thanasi Kokkinakis with 6:2 and 6:4. And thus written for the first time in the single in Málaga. Remarkable, by the way: Canada lost 4-0 in the first round of World Group matches in February in the Netherlands (without Auger-Aliassime and Shapovalov). And was only allowed to take part in the intermediate round in September as a substitute - Russia was excluded from the competition after the attack on Ukraine.

There is a small consolation for the Lleyton Hewitt team: As a finalist, the Australians have qualified directly for the intermediate round in September 2023.
