Jan-Lennard was actually prepared to meet Fabian Marozsan. But he was recalled at short notice and Mate Valkusz stepped in instead. That played into the German team's hands, Struff didn't let anything go wrong and won safely 6:3 and 6:2.

Previously, Kevin Krawietz and Tim Pütz gave Germany a 2-1 lead with a 6:3 and 7:6 (3) win against Marozsan and Valkusz. It was already clear then that Marozsan, the Hungarian number one, was not in shape. He gave up his serve twice in the first set alone.

After the first day it was a draw in Tatabanya. Dominic Koepfer defeated Fabian Marozsan at the start, and Struff then lost to Marton Fucsovics.

Germany will move into the intermediate round, which will take place in September. It will become clear in the coming weeks whether the DTB will provide one of the four venues as in 2022.
