As the ATP announced on Tuesday, coaching will be allowed in the second half of 2022 under certain conditions . Opinions differ widely, in an interview with "Eurosport" Rafael Nadal's coach Carlos Moya now commented on the upcoming change - and has a clear opinion.

"I'm not a big advocate of coaching. What makes tennis a special sport is the fact that it's the only sport where you compete alone against another - without outside help," said the former world number one Compared to the education system: "It's like an exam. The teacher can help you, but once the exam starts, you're on your own."

Moya: "I would leave everything as it is"

Basically, as a trainer, it is about preparing the protégé for any difficulties before a match. "The player then has to master all variants, because things always happen that were certainly not in the script. In this sense, I am absolutely against coaching," explained Moya.

"I would leave everything as it is," said the 45-year-old. Only the coming months will show whether coaching will be a permanent part of the men's tour. For the time being, the ATP only called a trial phase.
