Dais Cup: Michael Kohlmann nominates Andreas Mies

Michael Kohlmann has nominated the fifth player for the Davis Cup qualifying round from February 3rd to 4th, 2023 in Trier. Andreas Mies will strengthen the team against Switzerland and thus complete the team around Alexander Zverev, Oscar Otte, Jan-Lennard Struff and Tim Pütz.

"Andreas Mies showed very convincing performances at the Australian Open with a new partner and thus earned his nomination. He's still unbeaten in the Davis Cup and against a strong Swiss team we can really use players with match practice and self-confidence," says Kohlmann, explaining his decision.

Mies had recently reached the quarterfinals alongside Australian John Peers in Melbourne. The 32-year-old has already been nominated twice for the Davis Cup by Kohlmann, most recently in 2020 against Belarus. Mies won his three games - each together with Kevin Krawietz, who gave up the Australian Open this year due to the birth of his first child.

Switzerland, with captain Severin Lüthi, also announced news about the team nomination this week and registered Stan Wawrinka for the game against Germany. The former world number three replaces Henri Laaksonen and complements the team consisting of Marc-Andrea Hüsler (ATP 51), Dominic Stricker (ATP 118), Leandro Riedi (ATP 135) and Alexander Ritschard (ATP 180).
