Daniil Medvedev wants to make tennis more popular in Russia

Danill Medvedev, Andrey Rublev, Karen Khachanov and now Aslan Karatsev. Russian tennis has been experiencing an absolute renaissance for several months, this day reminds us of the glory days around Marat Safin, Yevgeny Kafelnikov & Co. The man who leads this group of strong young Russian top players knows that: Daniil Medvdev, second in the world rankings.

"Russian tennis is definitely on the rise right now and I like that. We want people to talk more about tennis in Russia. This is what is happening right now. We want TV to show more tennis in Russia That is one of the goals, " explained the 25-year-old on the sidelines of the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami , in which Medvedev will start the race as number one.

According to the Russian, he is now at a point where he would like his sport to have a much bigger stage in his home country. A stage that is appropriate to his and his colleagues' successes: "I think when you start to be good, you want to promote your sport in your country. I have the feeling that we succeeded and I am very happy that I have a lot of wins this year. Maybe I will play fewer tournaments than before, but so far I am satisfied with a lot of wins. "

Historically: Medvedev is second in the world rankings

The many victories have only recently made it possible for Medvedev to immortalize his name in the history books of tennis: A few weeks after reaching the finals at the Australian Open, the Russian pushed Rafael Nadal from second place on the ATP charts and became part of a particularly elite round. In order to go even higher in the world rankings, Medvedev probably needs slightly better results on clay.

Especially at the French Open, where the 25-year-old is still waiting for his first win in the main draw. Nevertheless, the world number two is convinced that there are only little things that are still missing on the red ashes for the breakthrough: "It's definitely about better preparation, because last year I didn't have this preparation. The year before I had it, and I've managed to play some good games on clay, get some good wins. So this year I'll have many weeks of training. "
