Here is the match to read in the live ticker.
What was already suspected on Friday manifested itself a few minutes before the start of the doubles at the Davis Cup encounter between Germany and Switzerland in Trier: namely that Severin Lüthi would make a change. And indeed: Instead of the youngster Leandro Riedi, Stan Wawrinka competed with Dominic Stricker against Andreas Mies and Tim Pütz. What paid off in the first set: Because Stricker and Wawrinka got it in the tie-break with 7: 6 (3).
Right at the beginning of the second act, however, the hosts managed the first break in the match, which Mies and Pütz safely defended until the 6:3.
Zverev can decide the game
In the decisive sentence it was Wawrinka of all people who made a mistake. In the seventh game, the three-time major champion had to parry his serve. Mies returned the advantage immediately - but then Dominic Stricker's nerves began to flutter. The left-hander made four mistakes in a row on his own service and gave up his serve to make it 4:5. That was enough for the two German doubles specialists to make it 2-1 for Germany a few moments later.
Now Alexander Zverev can already close the sack against Marc-Andrea Huesler and send Germany to the intermediate round, which will be held in mid-September.
