Davis Cup 2021: No Indian Wells

Actually, the newly formed Davis Cup final after two years in Madrid should have moved across the ocean to India Wells. It does not seem to come out of that.

As Javier Alonso, the CEO of Kosmos, told tennis.life , the intended deal seems to have burst. Billionaire Larry Ellison, the man behind the Indian Wells Masters tournament, didn't sign. "There were some things he didn’t like, he decided not to invest," says Alonso. "When you get to the papers sometimes things don’t match."

Where the final week in 2021 takes place seems to be open. "We are going to have a tender process next year together with the ITF and we are discussing with places that have an interest," Alonso continues. "We have an interest in the US in two places. There is an interest in South America, in Asia, and another in Europe."

According to tennis.life information, there have already been rumors in Madrid during this year's finals, but the finals could remain there in 2021 for a third consecutive year.

In any case, it seems possible that a solution or merger with the ATP Cup will be found in the future. This had inspired Novak Djokovic in Madrid. Alonso also hopes for a common Davis and Fed Cup future. "Not in the short term, but it could be a dream to have the Davis and Fed Cup under the same umbrella in the same week, men and women competing together for their nations. But right now we are concentrating on the Davis Cup.”
