It's no secret that being an away team in the Davis Cup in Brazil isn't always easy. The arena in Rio de Janeiro's Olympic Park turned into an absolute cauldron during the Davis Cup duel between Germany and Brazil on Saturday, in which emotions in the stands repeatedly boiled over. Much to the chagrin of Zverev & Co, who were exposed to wild rants throughout the match.

According to Zverev, there was a good reason why he left the pitch after his success without celebrating the success with team boss Kohlmann and his teammates: "We were booed here the whole time, at some point it was enough," said the German. "The viewers have crossed a line."

Zverev constantly insulted

In particular, the tone that some of the spectators struck in the stands seemed to annoy Zverev very much: "You can hate me, not like me. But if it goes against your family or against someone you love, then a line is crossed" , said the German, "And that was exceeded in almost every single game here today."

Among other things, Zverev was again reminded of what happened in Acapulco from the ranks, where the native of Hamburg was also disqualified for the singles competition after an inexplicable freak out in doubles. The third in the world rankings hit the referee's chair several times with his bat and only just missed the referee. In Rio de Janeiro, Zverev was then greeted with "Here is Acapulco".

At least in terms of sport, the balance for the German was quite positive: "I'm very satisfied with both of my matches here and that I was able to get two points for the team," said the German. Team boss Kohlmann was also very satisfied with the participation of the country's number one: "Alexander presented himself strongly here and in both individual shows how important he is for our team."
