The Davis Cup relegation game Austria against Pakistan will also take place at TC Tulln on September 16th and 17th immediately after the ATP Challenger and probably also the Final Four of the IMMOunited Bundesliga.

A two-week tennis festival is coming up for Austrian and especially Lower Austrian tennis in September this year. Because the Austrian Tennis Association, hand in hand with the state of Lower Austria, officially announced today, June 7th, 2022, that the Davis Cup match between Austria and Pakistan will take place on September 16th and 17th at TC Tulln. And thus on the same facility on which the ATP Challenger in Tulln (the Lower Austria Open powered by EVN) took place immediately beforehand from September 4th to 10th and, in all probability, the Final Four in the IMMOunited Bundesliga from September 9th to 11th be discharged. The center court will offer space for around 1500 spectators. At the same time, the choice of surface for the international match is already certain: The ÖTV men will welcome the guests from Pakistan on the sand courts built up from the two previous events and thus on the surface that is clearly preferred in the home camp anyway, as ÖTV captain and sports director Jürgen Melzer also learned from his direct coordination with the players.

After the 3-1 defeat in South Korea in March, the red-white-red selection is now against relegation to World Group I. And if you should do justice to the high favorite role against Pakistan, in spring 2023 too to get the next chance to qualify for the Davis Cup final tournament like in 2021 (then as organizer). With the decision in favor of Tulln as the venue, for the first time in Austrian Davis Cup history, an international competition will take place in the municipality, which is less than 30 kilometers as the crow flies from the federal capital Vienna and has around 16,380 inhabitants. The domestic national team aces will probably already be able to get used to the playing conditions at the two previous events at TC Tulln. From a sporting point of view, it is undoubtedly a clever move to take advantage of the home advantage.

ÖTV very satisfied with the venue

ÖTV President Martin Ohneberg enthused: “It is of course sensational and also a perfect economic solution that we can probably stage the ATP Challenger, the Final Four of the IMMOunited Bundesliga and the Davis Cup against Pakistan one after the other on one facility. And also in the immediate vicinity of Vienna and in Lower Austria, where some of the potential players of our Davis Cup team come from. So it's an ideal for us as the Austrian Tennis Association and for everyone else involved." Captain Melzer was just as delighted after Tulln's choice: "I think it's cool that we've found such an organizer. It's not that easy these days. I think it's great that Florian Leitgeb does that
does, and right after the ATP Challenger it's also appropriate, of course. Some of our Davis Cup players will also play the ATP Challenger before that. That means they are already used to the conditions. That's a huge advantage, I think. I'm also hoping for a good home advantage, because many of our top players come from Lower Austria."
