The joy of the Canadians knew no bounds after Felix Auger-Aliassime converted the match point. For the first time in history, the North Americans took the Davis Cup title in one of the greatest successes in the country's sporting history. "It's difficult to describe the emotions," said Auger-Aliassime after his two-set win over Australian Alex de Minaur.

Auger-Aliassime became a guarantor of success for his team in the Malaga days. The 22-year-old won all three individual games and made it into the semifinals alongside Vasek Pospisil. "This is a great moment for me and the entire country," said the sixth in the world rankings.

In the final against Australia, Denis Shapovalov laid the foundation for success with a clear victory over Thanasi Kokkinakis. Three years ago, the left-hander lost out to Rafael Nadal in the final against Spain. "It was hard to lose the 2019 final. There was a feeling of emptiness. We really wanted it this time," said Shapovalov.

Doubles specialist Vasek Pospisil, who played a leading role within the team alongside captain Frank Dancevic in Malaga, was no less enthusiastic: "To be here as world champions leaves me speechless. These guys are no longer children. They really let it rip. You can't win this event if you don't have team chemistry and come together as a unit, and that's what these guys did."
