Davis Cup: Erler and Miedler get the first point - only 1:2!
Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler got the first point for Austria in the Davis Cup meeting with Croatia with a 6:3 and 7:6 (11) against Ivan Dodig and Nikola Mektic.

In the fourth game, Jürgen Melzer couldn't help but smile: Alexander Erler had just nailed a forehand return into the field, securing the break to 3:1. And that after Erler had driven the Croatians to despair with a defensive action after a smash by Nikola Mektic in the rally beforehand. A few minutes later it was the Tyrolean again who, despite a few problems, served to make it 6:3. And Austria thus secured the first point in comparison with the Croatians.
The second act could not have been more dramatic. Because when the score was 5:6, the Austrians had to fend off a set ball. And in the tie-break it took five match points to make it 13:11. And then Jürgen Melzer could really grin.
Now it's up to Dominic Thiem to equalize. In the top game, the 2020 US Open champion faces Borna Coric.
