Big surprise at the beginning of the first quarter-finals at this year's Davis Cup Finals: Instead of being able to go into the duel between Jannik Sinner and Marin Cilic a little more relaxed with the cushion of a 1-0 lead, as planned, the Italians in front of the home crowd in Turin already under pressure. Lorenzo Sonego surprisingly failed in the afternoon because of Borna Gojo, who is currently in 279th place in the world rankings.

For the Croat, who prevailed 7: 6 (2), 2: 6 and 6: 2 in three competitive sets, it was the first win against a top 30 man in his career. The 23-year-old was already able to surprise in the group stage when he surprisingly got the upper hand against Australian Alexei Popyrin. Gojo also showed a convincing performance against Sonego, kept the upper hand in the final phase and finally made his surprise success perfect with a break.

The second individual in the duel between Croatia and Italy will be contested by Jannik Sinner and Marin Cilic. In addition, the Croatians are considered favorites in doubles, as they can send the currently leading pairing in the ATP world rankings into the race with Nikola Mektic and Mate Pavic.
