There is another setback on the way back to tennis normality. As the organizers announced on Friday afternoon, the Davis Cup Finals in Madrid will only take place in 2021. "It is a huge disappointment for all of us that the Davis Cup Finals 2020 cannot take place. We do not know how the situation will develop in all qualified nations, or whether the restrictions, or whether the restrictions in Spain will continue to be relaxed sufficiently, making it impossible to predict the situation in November and ensure the safety of travelers to Madrid, "Kosmos Tennis President Gerard Pique is quoted in the statement.

All qualified nations have their place fixed on the new date, the draw also remains. David Haggerty, President of the ITF, also supports this decision: "The organization of an international team event of this size while ensuring the health and safety of everyone involved is ultimately too great a risk. It is a complex undertaking and we have now made the decision to give players, national associations and fans security, "said the American.

A new date has already been set

In addition to postponing the finals, the 24 outstanding World Group I and World Group II games, as well as the regional Group III and IV events, in which 76 nations are involved, have been postponed. They should be made up for in either March or September of the coming year. The new date for the finals has already been set, they should start on September 22, 2021.
