Davis Cup: France, Argentina and Kazakhstan win

On day two of the Davis Cup final tournament in Madrid, the first encounters have come to an end.

France won 2-1 against Japan. Jo-Wilfried Tsonga did not have any problems at 6: 2, 6: 1 over Yasutaka Uchiyama, but Gael Monfils surprisingly lost to Yoshihito Nishioka 5: 7, 2: 6. In the doubles, Pierre-Hugues Herbert and Nicolas Mahut judged it with a sheer 6: 7, 6: 4 and 7: 5 over Ben McLachlan and Yasutaka Uchiyama.

The duel between Argentina and Chile, however, was already through after the singles: Guido Pella had won here with 6: 4, 6: 3 against Nicolas Jerry, Diego Schwartzman 6-2, 6: 2 against Cristian Garin. In the doubles Maximo Gonzalez / Leonardo Mayer drew 3-0 with a 6: 3, 7: 5 against Nicolas Jerry / Hans Podlipnik-Castillo.

Between Kazakhstan and the Netherlands the doubles had to decide. Mikhail Kukushkin had beaten Botic van de Zandschulp 6-2, 6-2, but Alexander Bublik lost to Robin Haase 5-7, 6-3 and 6-7. However, Bublik and Kukushkin made it 2-1 by beating Haase and Jean-Julien Rojer 6: 4, 7: 6.

In the evening Spain meets Russia, the USA plays against Canada and Australia versus Colombia.

The German team plays against Argentina on Wednesday at 11.00 CET.
