What stage of the Davis Cup are we in?

On Friday February 3rd and Saturday February 4th some of the Davis Cup qualifiers for the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals will be played. Germany meets Switzerland. A total of twelve matches are scheduled for this weekend. From September 12th to 17th, the twelve winners will then work out places for the final phase at the end of November with the already qualified nations Canada (title defender) and Australia (last year's finalists), as well as the two wildcard nations Spain and Italy. The twelve losers also have to fight against relegation to World Group I in September. In the head-to-head of the two competing nations, the men of the DTB lead impressively 9:0.

Where is the game played?

From a German point of view, the international match will be held at home in the Arena Trier. The game is played indoors on a hard court (green set) with an outside temperature of around 7-9 degrees Celsius. Trier is an independent city on the Middle Moselle in the federal state of Rhineland-Palatinate and is currently home to around 110,000 inhabitants.

Who is in the squad?

Germany receives the neighbors from the southwest with the best cast. In addition to the former world number two Alexander Zverev, non-playing captain Michael Kohlmann called up the individual players Oscar Otte and Daniel Altmaier for the duel against the Swiss. In doubles, the two currently best-placed doubles players, Tim Pütz and Andreas Mies, will most likely start the race. The Swiss captain Severin Lüthi can also draw on the full. The three-time Grand Slam winner Stan Wawrinka, who is in world number 135, brings a wealth of experience to the tie. In addition, the currently best-placed Swiss Marc-Andrea Huesler, top talent Dominik Stricker, Leandro Riedi and Alexander Ritschard are in the guest squad.
