You don't look into the individual associations. And maybe Goran Ivanisevic's wish to act as captain of the Croatian Davis Cup team from next year wasn't that great. On the other hand, there was no shortage of prominent advocates for the 2001 Wimbledon winner, especially Marin Cilic, whom Ivanisevic led as coach to his greatest triumph at the 2014 US Open.
In fact, Vedran Martic will initially lead the Croatians into the first round game against India on March 6 and 7, 2020, in the hope that the team around Borna Coric and Cilic will qualify for the second final tournament in Madrid. At the premiere this year, the Croatians had automatically been given a starting place because they had reached at least the semifinals in 2018 (the fact that in the end it was even enough to win was irrelevant for the right to compete in Madrid).
In any case, Vedran Martic is no stranger to the tennis circus, since he has just trained that Goran Ivanisevic, more recently Karen Khachanov. For Ivanisevic, on the other hand, this means that he can concentrate fully on the Australian Open. Not so much as a member of the coaching team of Novak Djokovic (Marian Vajda is directing in Melbourne alone), but rather as a participant in the Legends tournament.
