More often against each other than with each other: Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi

It was an amazing tour group that had gathered in Palermo: With Pete Sampras and Andre Agassi, the USA brought in a pound that had only existed once in the history of tennis before (in September 1984, when the USA with John McEnroe and Jimmy Connors faced Australia). Namely the then current leaders of the ATP world rankings: Pete Sampras as number one, Andre Agassi as number two. And the two legends lived up to their reputation: Because Agassi won the first individual against today's ATP boss Andrea Gaudenzi in three sets, Pete Sampras then had slight problems with Renzo Furlan only in the first round.

Richey Reneberg and Jared Palmer got the third point for the Americans on Saturday, where Sampras quickly breaded Gaudenzi again on the final day.

Agassi not in the final

A few months later, the parade team hit up again in Las Vegas, the hometown of Agassi (the two had swapped positions in the world rankings, now the local hero was in the lead). Sampras scored the first point against Sweden with his win against Thomas Enqvist, Agassi added against Mats Wilander. However, Enqvist and Stefan Edberg got the doubles before Todd Martin secured victory and thus entry into the 1995 final.

There, from December 1st to 3rd in Moscow, Andre Agassi was no longer available. But his representation was impressive: Jim Courier went to Bütt for the USA. But Pete Sampras got the decisive points for the 3-2 victory. On Friday, "Pistol Pete" won a marathon against Andrey Chesnokov on the deep ashes, the seven-time Wimbledon champion won the colon together with Todd Martin. And, after all, the last victim of sampras was Yevgeny Kafelnikov, who had to bend in three sentences.
