Marach and Melzer thus provided the Austrian number one, Dominic Thiem, with the match ball to keep Austria with a victory in the world group. In the third single, Thiem competes against Emil Ruusuvuori, who surprisingly showed himself in the doubles alongside Henri Kontinen. That went to the two Austrian routines with 7: 6 (5) and 6: 2.

The first set was balanced until the tie break, Ruusuvuori gave the guests the first mini break with a smash error. The Finns came back again, but still had to give up 5: 7. The decisive break in the second set was achieved by Marach and Melzer 4-2 against Henri Kontinen. In the end, the Styrian and Lower Austrian also got the service from Ruusuvuori again.
