Stan Wawrinka is coming to Trier for the Davis Cup

Michael Kohlmann has almost completed his business trip to the Australian Open, this Friday he is going back to Germany. Kohlmann experienced the elimination of Alexander Zverev against Michael Mmoh up close, and of course the German Davis Cup captain was also there at the matches of Oscar Otte, Jan-Lennard Struff or Yannick Hanfmann.

In addition to checking the form of his own players, Kohlmann also observed potential opponents for the Davis Cup meeting with Switzerland on February 3rd and 4th in Trier. Leandro Riedi and Dominic Stricker, the two up-and-coming young Swiss, each failed to qualify. Marc-Andrea Huesler, the currently best-placed Swiss player in the ATP charts, lost to John Millman in five sets in round one of the main draw.

Wawrinka won the Davis Cup with Federer in 2014

Stan Wawrinka also had to go over five sets, the three-time Grand Slam champion was eliminated in round one by Alex Molcan. But will probably come to Trier with the Swiss team, as Michael Kohlmann revealed in a podcast on sportradio360.de .

Which of course would be a real highlight for German tennis fans. As is well known, Alexander Zverev, who, like Wawrinka, has had a say in men's tennis over the past few years, runs for the home team. Albeit with a slight time lag: The Swiss' greatest successes finally came between 2014 (victory at the Australian Open) and 2016 (triumph at the US Open). In 2014, Wawrinka also won the Davis Cup together with Roger Federer.
