The German tennis professionals want to attack Canada in the difficult quarter-finals of the Davis Cup. "The team stands together - no matter what happens on the pitch. Playing with this feeling and not giving up makes us strong. We have a very special squad," said national coach Michael Kohlmann before the meeting in Malaga on Thursday (4:00 p.m /ServusTV).

“None of us wants to fly home straight away on Thursday. The approach is that we don't want to lose a game. We did that in Hamburg and we want to do that in Spain too," explained the German team boss.

Kohlmann still has to do without top player Alexander Zverev (bone edema) in the knockout round of the traditional team competition. In all likelihood, Oscar Otte (Cologne) and Jan-Lennard Struff (Warstein) will face Felix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov, who are sixth and 18th in the world rankings, respectively.

Struff, who has a positive record of 5-3 wins against Shapovalov, said on Monday: "The year was difficult for me, I didn't play well, I was injured. Playing the Davis Cup in Hamburg gave me a real push. I always have so much fun being with the team. This spirit pushes me even more. For me, these are some of the coolest weeks of the year.”

The German team is completed by Yannick Hanfmann (Karlsruhe) and the still undefeated doubles Kevin Krawietz/Tim Pütz (Coburg/Frankfurt).
