Well done Botic! Malaga can come ...

Nobody expected that when the draw for the Davis Cup intermediate round in Glasgow became known: that the Netherlands would leave Scotland as the sovereign group winners. And thus meet the second in Group C in Malaga. This will be the loser of the game between Germany and Australia, which will be determined tomorrow in Hamburg.

In the last group match, the Netherlands were already the winners after the individual matches against the USA. Tallon Griekspoor beat Tommy Paul 7:5 and 7:6 (3) at the start, then Botic van de Zandschulp won 6:4 and 7:6 (3). But the Americans had already booked their place in Malaga before Saturday's meeting with the Netherlands.

Auger-Aliassime brings Canada to Malaga

Canada needed only one match win against Serbia. And Félix Auger-Aliassime did that against Miomir Kecmanovic 6: 3 and 6: 4. In the final, meaningless doubles, the Canadians gave up after three games. As the second team from Group B, which plays in Valencia, the Spaniards are likely to rise. The hosts only need one match win against Sunday.

Croatia kept the chances of progressing. Because after the singles against Argentina the victory was already certain. Borna Gojo prevailed against Sebastian Baez in Bologna, as did Borna Coric against Francisco Cerundolo. So Sweden has to win against Italy on Sunday to still have a chance of a starting place in Malaga.
