First, Jan-Lennard Struff brought the German Davis Cup team. After 77 minutes, the 32-year-old from Warstein defeated Max Purcell, who was eight years his junior, 6-1, 7-5. Then Oscar Otte Thanasi Kokkinakis from Cologne had to admit defeat 6:7 (6:8), 1:6. After a good start, the 29-year-old had no chance.

"I'm very happy that I was able to get a total of three points for Germany. It was a really close match in the second set," said Struff after his game.

Regardless of the cool and damp weather, Struff found his way into the game immediately. Doubles specialist Purcell, who replaced Australia's top player Alex de Minaur, seemed overwhelmed by the powerful ground strokes of his German opponent and gave up the first set after just 25 minutes.

In the second round, Struff am Rothenbaum quickly took over the initiative thanks to an early break to make it 2-0. But now Purcell, this year's Wimbledon winner in doubles, put up more energetic resistance. Nevertheless, the number 132 in the world rankings was able to convert the first match ball to victory.

Otte, however, was unable to use a 3-0 lead in the tie-break of the first round. He then fended off two set balls from Kokkinakis, but in the end the Australian celebrated. Who then pulled away early with the break in the second set.
