Fabio Fognini said goodbye to Corrado Barazzutti as the Davis Cup captain of Italy, although he did not tearfully. Fognini has a special relationship with Barazzutti, who has always found a place in the coach box next to the respective coach Fognini (at the moment this would be Alberto Manicini). On December 31, 2020, however, Barazzutti's 20-year term of office came to an end, and Filippo Volandri will take over.

However, Volandri will not really be able to fill this position with life until further notice: Italy has qualified for the final round of the Davis Cup in 2021 (rather taking the final place from 2020 after the cancellation last November into the new year), but the tournament is only just about to begin from November 25th. After all: Volandri and his Italians could have a home game. Because Turin has applied to the ITF to handle two preliminary round groups and a quarter-final.

Like the Austrian Tennis Association (ÖTV), which threw his hat into the ring a few days ago. Austria was drawn into a group with Serbia and Germany. To date, the DTB has not known any official interest in hosting the preliminary round matches. As in 2019, the grand finale will take place in the Caja Magical in Madrid.
