First Valencia, then Malaga: will Rafael Nadal help in the Spanish team?

Valencia and the Davis Cup - that's what memories come up for German tennis fans in particular. Atmospherically good, because in 2018 all hell broke loose in the bullring of the Spanish metropolis. Not quite as brilliant in terms of sport - because Michael Kohlmann's team, which started as individual players with Alexander Zverev and Philipp Kohlschreiber, had to admit defeat 2: 3.

Now, from September 14-18, 2022, Valencia will be one of the four cities that will determine this year's Davis Cup quarter-finalists, along with Glasgow, Hamburg and Bologna. The draw for the groups will take place this Tuesday. The top eight teams of the year (excluding the defending champions from Russia, who have been banned from the current competition by the ITF) will then meet in Malaga in November to crown the 2022 Davis Cup champions.

There are four pots drawn today. However, one thing is already clear: the Canadians, who are only allowed to take part in the meeting of the 16 best remaining nations because of a wild card, will travel to the Spaniards in Valencia. Because the other three teams from Pot 2, which also includes Canada, will act as hosts: Germany, Great Britain and Italy.
