Unsurprisingly, Italy entered the Davis Cup finals as group winners. Filippo Volandri's side also won their last game against Sweden 2-1 on Sunday. After Matteo Berrettini had taken the lead, Jannik Sinner then had to admit defeat to Mikael Ymer in three sets. In doubles, Simone Bolelli and Fabio Fognini ensured a perfect finish for the hosts playing in Bologna. In addition to Italy, Croatia also qualified from Group A for the finals in November, while Sweden and Argentina went empty-handed.

In Group B, the Spaniards made the home fans happy. Roberto Bautista Agut first clearly beat Seong-Chan Hong in two sets, before world number one Carlos Alcaraz followed up with a 6: 4 and 7: 6 (1) win over Soonwoo Kwon. Marcel Granollers and Pedro Martinez fixed the 3-0 win in doubles. Thus, Spain finished the group as the winner, Canada ended up in second place. Serbia, playing without Novak Djokovic this time, and South Korea have to watch in the final round.

While Germany and Australia managed to get promoted in Group C , the Netherlands (1st) and the USA (2nd) prevailed in Group D. The final international match on Sunday between Great Britain and Kazakhstan was irrelevant even before the game started, but the hosts in Glasgow finished their group in third place thanks to a 2-1 win.

In the quarter-finals, there are now duels between Italy and the USA, Germany and Canada, Spain and Croatia as well as the Netherlands and Australia. The Davis Cup final round will take place in Malaga, Spain, from November 22nd to 27th.
