After three players, Belinda Bencic, Rafael Nadal and Ons Jabeur, reported about a corona infection immediately after the exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi, Denis Shapovalov has now caught another desert city starter: Like that Canadians announced on Saturday that he tested positive for COVID-19 upon arriving in Sydney.

"I follow all protocols, including isolation, and inform the people I have been in contact with. I am still suffering from mild symptoms at the moment and look forward to returning to the field as soon as it is safe," Shapovalov wrote in the social media.

Shapovalov originally wanted to contest the ATP Cup with the Canadian team in Sydney, but the 22-year-old will at least miss the start of the tournament: the 14th in the world rankings. must go into isolation for at least ten days after his positive test. If the symptoms have subsided, he could return to the field on January 4th.

Canada will face the USA, Great Britain and Germany at the ATP Cup in Group C, which starts on January 1st. The meeting with the German team will take place on January 6th - and could therefore serve as a comeback match for Shapovalov.
