Novak Djokovic and especially Viktor Troicki have forgotten the disappointments from the Davis Cup final tournament in Madrid last November: At that time the two Serbs lost in the quarterfinals in the doubles despite numerous chances in the tie break of the third set. In the decisive doubles at the ATP Cup in Sydney, Djokovic and Troicki against Pablo Carreno Busta and Feliciano Lopez were now at their best. The two Serbs won 6: 3 and 6: 4, winning the premier title at this event.

Francisco Roig, the Spanish team boss, surprisingly decided not to line up Rafael Nadal in doubles. In the quarterfinals against Belgium, Nadal was still with Carreno Busta in the decisive match on the court, but now Roig relied on veteran Feliciano Lopez. The determining man on the court was Novak Djokovic, who set the tone with clever and powerful basic strokes. Djokovic had previously defeated Rafael Nadal 6-2 and 7-6 (4) in the top individual. And appropriately served to win the title from Serbia.

The only point for the Spaniards went to Roberto Bautista Agut in the individual against Dusan Lajovic. Bautista Agut, like Djokovic, won all six individual games at the ATP Cup. However, the Serbian world ranking second had to overcome significantly more difficult hurdles than "RBA".
