Little is heard these days by Dominic Thiem - and that's a good thing. The Austrian number one has taken a few days off after the ATP Finals in London. And exposed to the elements during an Iceland visit. By the way, several players who were in the O2 at the start, especially Stefanos Tsitsipas.

The preparation for the 2020 season, which starts for Thiem with the Austrian team in Sydney at the ATP Cup, however, is slowly picking up speed again. Tenerife has come to an end as the epicenter of sprints and drills, and Thiem is getting fit for the first time in Miami for a season. A recipe that has already helped Andy Murray to success.

The prospects of the world ranking fourth for the beginning of the year are very positive: First, the new team competition with Captain Thomas Muster and buddy Dennis Novak at the side. In contrast to the Laver Cup in September (with Thiem) or the recently played Davis Cup final tournament in Madrid (without Austria and Thiem), it is also about ATP points.

Thiem could score in Rio de Janeiro

Thiem does not have many to defend at the beginning of 2020. At the Australian Open, there are only 90 points to equalize for the first-round win against Benoit Paire, who followed the task against Alexei Popyrin. The South American tour with the semi-finals in Buenos Aires has completely fallen out of the standings, in Rio de Janeiro, for example, Thiem could get a bonus of up to 410 points if successful - if the Austrian wins in the Brazilian metropolis, as he did in 2016, then he will the knockout round of Hamburg from the rating. The only 250cc that is still on Thiem's is the one in Kitzbühel.

In March, not only the Davis Cup against Uruguay waits. But also the title defense in Indian Wells, where Dominic Thiem has to defend with 1.000 the biggest chunk at points beside the 1.200 for the final participation in Paris. However, at the Masters tournaments in Miami, Monte Carlo, Rome and Cincinnati, the Austrian has also compared to 2019 also up. That's exactly what Miami should be all about.
