The current season is not over yet, even the tournament directors have to think about the fields for the season 2020. In any case, the leaders in Buenos Aires and Rio de Janeiro have already managed a coup, with Dominic Thiem being one of the best clay court players of recent years.

Thiem already participated in the events in Argentina and Brazil in 2019, but the South American tour for the World Ranking Five failed too well: In the ATP 250 tournament in Buenos Aires Thiem lost in the semi-final against Diego Schwartzman, in the 500er event in Rio the Janeiro had to defeat the Lichtenwörther even in the first round - Laslo Djere proved to be too strong.

Three tournament victories in South America

Otherwise, things have been going on for the Austrian in South America so far, but in Buenos Aires (2016 and 2017) and Rio in the Janeiro (2017) Thiem could already secure the title. The tournament in Argentina will take place from 10 to 16 February 2020, followed by the event in Brazil.

Thiem's tournament schedule is thus becoming more and more concrete. The 26-year-old will open the upcoming season at the ATP Cup in Australia before he goes to the Australian Open in Melbourne for him. After that, the world ranking fifth will start in South America. Eventually, from 24 to 29 February, an appearance at the hard court event in Acapulco could follow, before Thiem wants to defend his title at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament in Indian Wells.
