The first two ATP Masters 1000 tournaments of the year in Indian Wells and Miami are known to have many highly decorated single players in the doubles competition. For example, Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer not only won the title in Indian Wells.

It remains to be seen whether Dominic Thiem will succeed in a similar feat. The Austrian already won the single title in the California desert with his triumph in the previous year, the chances for a tournament win are likely to be significantly worse in doubles - although the Lichtenwörther with Grigor Dimitrov got a prominent name by his side.

No less prominent is Thiem's double partner in Miami. Stefanos Tsitsipas is considered to be one of the hottest stocks on the tour and is also known for singling out points from time to time on the net - certainly not a disadvantage for Thiem, whose powerful basic strokes could also cause problems for any double player in the world.

Last year, however, the double experiment in Indian Wells and Miami was more than bad for Thiem. Alongside Steve Johnson, he failed in the first round. However, if Thiem should also win one of the two individual titles this season, such a result could well be coped with again .
