That was it until further notice with the double glory of Dominic Thiem and Diego Schwartzman. The two finalists are missing as a duo in the tableau for the ATP Tour 500 event in Rio de Janeiro, not surprisingly. The double is gladly taken away on the first stop on a new surface, that Thiem and Schwartzman are fighting to the finals in Buenos Aires, which the two buddies had not expected.

As far as the individual in Rio is concerned, defending champion Diego Schwartzman has been rather unlucky in the draw. The Argentine meets Pablo Cuevas, the grandiose burrower from Uruguay who asked Dominic Thiem a few days ago.

First meeting with Djere

Thiem's lot turned out to be a lot friendlier, Laslo Djere has to compete with the Rio Champion of 2017. The Serb is listed in position 90 in the world rankings and won exactly one match in the main fields of the ATP tour in 2019: his very first in Pune against the not yet legendary local hero Arjun Kadhe. Last Djere tried in Sofia, found his master in round one in Mikhail Kukushkin.

Djere has never played against Thiem, the premiere will not take place before 7 p.m. local time (from 11 p.m. CET in our match tracker). Nicolas Massu will also be with the Lower Austrian in Brazil, after which a first evaluation is likely. The Team Thiem has enough time for this, in contrast to previous years, the 25-year-old Lichtenwörther Acapulco is missing this time. Next stop is Indian Wells.

Schwartzman after Thiem

Monday in Rio de Janiero was not without problems, for example Nicolas Jarry, the Chilean in eighth place, was unable to finish his match against Roberto Carballes Baena due to rain, just as Malek Jaziri was unable to finish his match against Federico Delbonis.

In addition to Thiem, Diego Schwartzman is also hoping for better conditions on Tuesday: His meeting with Cuevas is scheduled immediately after that of the Austrian. After the stress of Buenos Aires, a late night session.
