The Lichtenwörther should have appeared on Sunday with his soccer team "Dominic Thiem's 1. TFC" in Wiener Neustadt - in favor of the Make-a-Wish Foundation. Unfortunately, nothing will come of it now. The aftermath of the cold, which also put a spanner in the works at the US Open, is still an issue in the team in fourth place in the world rankings.

"Sorry! I am extremely sorry for this cancellation. My 1st TFC will play against Austria Wien Allstars in the new Wiener Neustädter Stadion on Sunday (from 5pm), I was extremely looking forward to this match," Thiem wrote on Saturday afternoon on Facebook . "But after my virus, I now have to subordinate everything to training and regeneration in order to get fit quickly. Therefore, I unfortunately have to cancel my participation. Enjoy the football afternoon!"

Jürgen Melzer and Dennis Novak are also part of the benefit kick. Sky Sport Austria will broadcast the event on Sunday from 2:55 p.m. on its Facebook page and YouTube.

Thiem wants to try to get fit again until the Davis Cup game next weekend .

Manager Herwik Straka also announced that they would adjust Thiem's tournament calendar a little next year. Thiem had to give up early at the Australian Open due to illness.
