Dominic Thiem cancels start at lawn tournament in Halle

Dominic Thiem has withdrawn for the ATP 500 tournament in Halle / Westphalia. In contrast to previous years, the two-time French Open finalist has decided not to play a tournament in front of the classic lawn in Wimbledon.

"The tournament last year went completely wrong. It really annoyed me that I had to give it somewhere. It is the most prestigious tennis tournament. I want to do better this year," said Thiem earlier this week at one Press conference .

In 2018 he was not fit against Wimbledon against Marcos Baghdatis in Wimbledon and had to give up in the third set. "It is important to give the body rest in order to save energy in the second half of the season," said Thiem. "I want to travel to Wimbledon in a completely fresh, hungry and physically fit condition. That was not the case last year. I will organize the preparation differently."

Instead of playing a full tournament week in Halle, Thiem prefers to play matches at Exhibitons, as he indicated. The Boodles and Aspall Tennis Classic, which traditionally take place the week before Wimbledon, could be considered.
