So Dominic Thiem will continue to work on his form on the training courts instead of playing his second major event of the year in Wimbledon. After his first round defeat in Roland Garros, the Austrian had already announced that he wanted to do a training block. Although it was recently said by those around the former world number three that Thiem wanted to start in Wimbledon, these plans now seem to have changed.

In the official update of the entry list for the classic lawn, it was announced on Thursday morning that Thiem had withdrawn his entry. The Austrian would have been in the main draw at Wimbledon thanks to his protected ranking. Instead, it now seems likely that Thiem is planning a DACH hat-trick: i.e. starting in Hamburg, Kitzbühel and Gstaad.

At the time it became known, the Austrian had not yet made a statement about the cancellation. For the Lower Austrian, long-running Grand Slam Feliciano Lopez moves into the main field.
