- Thiem is the first Austrian since Thomas Muster in 1996 to win the title in Barcelona.
- With this success, Thiem is only the second player after Roger Federer, who has won two tournaments this season. Thiem previously in Indian Wells, Federer in Dubai and Miami.
- In the semi-final against Rafael Nadal and in the final against Daniil Medvedev, Thiem only lost his serve once.
- Overall, the Lower Austrian rushed to Diego Schwartzman, Jaume Munar, Guido Pella, Nadal and Medvedev for the title without losing a set.
- For Thiem it was the third title at the 500 level. The first came in Acapulco in 2016, the second in Rio de Janeiro in 2017.
- For Thiem it was the ninth title on sand, the 13th overall.
