The Russian got off to a better start and got Thiem's first service game. Medvedev dictated with his flat strokes, Thiem then changed his tactics, offering his opponent more and more slice balls. The Austrian not only managed to equalize, but made up for it with the next break. At 5: 4 for Thiem, Medvedev took a medical break, Dominic Thiem was not impressed.

And took the momentum after 6: 4, got the first break in the first game of the second set. What followed was a demonstration of power by the Austrian against an opponent who could no longer keep up physically. After 71 minutes, Thiem scored his first match ball with a volley, making it clear the 13th title on the ATP tour.

Second Austrian after Thomas Muster

When the trophy was handed over, Thiem expressed his joy that he was the second Austrian after Thomas Muster to win in Barcelona. And once again confirmed that this tournament is also one of the most pleasant on the entire ATP tour for the players.

There is now a week off for both players before the fourth ATP Masters 1000 tournament of the year continues in Madrid. Thiem reached the final there last year - and lost to Alexander Zverev. The title in Barcelona was the second of the year after the biggest career triumph in Indian Wells a few weeks ago. Thiem's victory will have no effect on the ATP world rankings: the Austrian secures his fifth place, reducing the gap to Roger Federer to a little less than 500 points.
