The season preparation of Austria's number one, Dominic Thiem, has now officially started: On Thursday afternoon, the former world number three published a video on social media, which shows the Lichtenwörther already busy toiling in the Vienna area. Fitness guru and Team Thiem member Jez Green only landed there on Tuesday to work with the 29-year-old on the physical condition for the coming season.

One thing is certain, the coming weeks will be tough for the Austrian. "We will only do fitness for a week, not pick up the tennis racket yet, and then combine it," said Thiem most recently at Talk in Hangar 7. The goal: clear. Thiem wants to return to its absolute top level in the coming calendar year - or even become a better version of himself. "I want to be a new and better version of myself. Then close the small gap to the top people," said Thiem when asked about his goals for the coming season.

Thiem opens in Dubai

However, the Lower Austrian does not have a specific ranking goal. Thiem has achieved the declared goal for this year - to return to the top 100 - but due to the premature end of the season, the 29-year-old will probably leave the top 100 at the turn of the year. In order to gain some experience at competition level, Thiem will also serve at the World Tennis League in Dubai, which will take place from December 19th to 24th.

Dominic Thiem was able to reach two semi-finals at ATP level in 2022 after starting difficulties after returning to the ATP tour. Most recently, Thiem was able to connect to past performances with victories such as against Hubert Hurkacz, after the second round defeat against Daniil Medvedev - Thiem could see that the tank was anything but full - at the home tournament in Vienna the 29-year-old surprisingly decided to do so an early end of the season.
