Top player Dominic Thiem will definitely be available to the Austrian Davis Cup team in the duel against Croatia. As the 29-year-old announced on his Facebook page on Saturday, he is currently preparing for the international match and the subsequent tournaments.
Thiem, who tore a small muscle fiber in his rib at the Australian Open, sent positive signals a few days ago. Now nothing seems to stand in the way of the 2020 US Open winner in Rijeka.
In addition to Thiem, the Austrian team consists of Jurij Rodionov, Dennis Novak and the double specialists Alexander Erler and Lucas Miedler. Borna Coric, Borna Gojo and the world-class doubles Nikola Mektic/Mate Pavic have been nominated for the Croatians. A replacement for the injured Marin Cilic has not yet been announced.
Austria will travel to Rijeka by bus on Tuesday morning and prepare for the international match at the Zamet sports center. On February 4th and 5th it's all about qualifying for the lucrative final tournament.
