As is well known, the best comes last - and so the organizers of the Erste Bank Open in Vienna scheduled the first round cracker between Andrey Rublev and Diego Schwartzman as the fourth and last match of the day. Some of the spectators in the town hall also got to see high-class tennis, but in the end Rublev never gave rise to any doubts about the outcome of the match: the Russian, who was third, won 6:4 and 6:1. In the round of 16 he meets Grigor Dimitrov or Thiago Monteiro.

With Taylor Fritz, number four of the tournament is also in the second round. The American even had to fend off a match point against Yoshihito Nishioka and won very narrowly with 6: 7 (4), 7: 6 (7) and 6: 3. He now has to deal with Jurij Rodionov or Denis Shapovalov.

Karen Khachanov and Borna Coric also celebrated opening successes on Monday. In the first match of the day in the Stadthalle, Khachanov got the upper hand against JJ Wolf 7: 6 (4) and 7: 5, Coric defeated the French qualifier Quentin Halys a few kilometers away at Heumarkt 3: 6, 7: 5 and 6: 3. Meanwhile, Filip Misolic has already had to give up.
