The rather unfavorable draw did not cause Jannik Sinner any further worries, at least in the first round of the Erste Bank Open 2021: The South Tyrolean sat comfortably 6: 4 and 6: 2 three days after his success at the ATP Tour 250 tournament in Antwerp against Reilly Opelka. The next task will also be interesting in terms of atmosphere: Sinner will play in the round of 16 against local hero Dennis Novak. He already had an Italian opponent in Gianluca Mager on Tuesday. And was able to prevail twice in the tiebreaker.

Things didn't go quite as smoothly for the second Italian youngster, Lorenzo Musetti. He was allowed to play against Gael Monfils in the Wiener Stadthalle and kept the match open in the first set until the tie-break. However, the experienced Frenchman got it. And Monfils did not give up, brought an early break in the second round to 7: 6 (2) and 6: 4.

Sonego and Fognini at the Heumarkt

Lorenzo Sonego and Fabio Fognini were allowed to test the smaller space in the hall at the Heumarkt. Sonego prevailed against the lucky loser Dominik Koepfer, last year the Italian defeated Novak Djokovic in Vienna. In the second round, Sonego meets Casper Ruud, number four of the tournament.

Fabio Fognini then spent a rather unpleasant afternoon on the #glaubandich Court. Fognini made a false start against Diego Schwartzman, came in the last minute to rebreak to 5: 5, but still had to defeat the 2019 finalist with 2: 6 and 5: 7 are beaten.
