This is how fast it can go in tennis: Kevin Anderson was still on the brink of a sporting abyss against Dennis Novak and had to fend off three match points from the Austrian in the tie-break of the third set. Against Pablo Carreno Busta, this year semi-finalist at the US Open, Anderson did not let anything go at 7: 5 and 6: 1. The South African, who defeated Kei Nishikori in the 2018 final in the Vienna Stadthalle, can sit back and wait for his quarter-final opponent: He will be determined in the match between Daniel Evans and the Austrian surprise man Jurij Rodionov.
Novak Djokovic had some problems with Borna Coric in the first set. The Croatian couldn't use several set balls and after a playing time of 2:07 hours had to admit defeat to the world number one with 6: 7 (11) and 3: 6. Djokovic will face either Hubert Kurkacz or Lorenzo Sonego in the quarter-finals.
Defending champion Dominic Thiem will play his second match on Thursday. Thiem does not play before 5:30 p.m. (live on TV and stream on ServusTV) against the Chilean Cristian Garin.
