The two previous duels between Tsitsipas and Dimitrov took place in 2020: In Vienna, the Bulgarian won a close game in three sets, at the French Open Tsitsipas was able to assert himself. Most recently in Indian Wells, Dimitrov showed rising form, beat Daniil Medvedev and reached the semifinals. Tsitsipas, on the other hand, lost to Nikoloz Basilashvili earlier in the tournament.
The Greek celebrated a sense of achievement in Vienna on Monday: Together with Feliciano Lopez, he beat the favorite pairing Ivan Dodig and Marcelo Melo in doubles in the match tiebreak of the third set.
