Lucas Miedler defeated Peter Gojowczyk 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2 at the beginning of the qualification for the Erste Bank Open 2021. Alexander Erler , on the other hand, was eliminated against Gianluca Mager.

Surprise by Lucas Miedler in the first round of the Erste Bank Open 2021: The Austrian defeated the US Open round of 16 Peter Gojowczyk after a balanced first set in the end with 7: 6 (4) and 6: 2. The next task doesn't get any easier: Miedler has to deal with number one in the qualification, the American Frances Tiafoe. Tiafoe won against Alex Molcan in three sets.
Alexander Erler, on the other hand, was eliminated. The Tyrolean started strong against Gianluca Mager, but in the end had to admit defeat 7: 6 (2), 2: 6 and 4: 6. Mager will play against Dominik Koepfer on Sunday for a place in the main field in the Wiener Stadthalle.
Jurij Rodionov will be the third Austrian to play in the qualification competition on Saturday. The left-hander meets veteran Kevin Anderson from South Africa.
