"That was the best match of my life. I played so, so well," said Lorenzo Sonego after the greatest success of his career, following his quarter-final victory over world number one Novak Djokovic, to the frenetic Viennese audience. However, it is often an extremely hard task to be able to build on such exceptional performances, not to suffer a setback in the next match.

At the start of his semi-final duel with Dan Evans, the Italian impressively showed that Lorenzo Sonego had no ambitions to end his successful run at the Erste Bank Open on this Saturday afternoon. The world number 42. started furiously and was already 3-0 in front after just nine minutes. Again it was good serves and in particular the unorthodox but extremely effective forehand that should always bring the Italian the desired success. Sonego could not maintain the insane level at the start of the match, but remained sovereign and quickly won the set 6: 3.

Andrey Rublev is waiting in the final

At the start of round two it was the Italian who was able to set the first scent brand. Sonego grabbed the Brit's serve in the first game and quickly took the lead 2-0. The world number 42 presented itself at its own serve. remains almost untouchable, which is why Dan Evans should not be able to find a way back into this match. Sonego was able to fend off the 30-year-old's only break chance with a sensational forehand winner. The second set went 6: 4 to the Italian, who is now in his second ATP final. And that with such a strong field like the Erste Bank Open.

In the final, Lorenzo Sonego will now meet the man of the hour on the ATP tour, the Russian Andrey Rublev. He benefited in the semifinals from a task by South African Kevin Anderson and is already in his fifth final of the season - in which he could now celebrate his fifth title. The final will take place tomorrow, Sunday.
