After almost an hour in the last round of 16 of the Erste Bank Open 2022, it looked as if nothing could stop Stefanos Tsitsipas on his way to the last eight of the Stadthallen tournament. The Greek had just won the first set against Borna Coric 6: 4 in front of the still very full stands, and also led in the second round with a break and therefore 2: 0. But Coric didn't want to end the evening that quickly, so he managed the re-break with a praise worth seeing.

And that's not all: The Croatian got into the match better and better and equalized the set with the next break. In the decision, it looked like Borna Coric would win again. Because the reigning Cincinnati champion took a 3-2 lead with a break. Tsitsipas countered immediately. The fact that the match was decided in a tie-break was only fitting.

In the end it was Borna Coric who was allowed to celebrate. And with the 7: 4 an impressive series improved: The Croatian has now won 18 of 22 tie-breaks in decisive sets on the ATP tour.

Sinner in the quarterfinals against Medvedev

Opponent in the quarterfinals will be Hubert Hurkacz, who had a hard time against Emil Ruusuvuori. But in the end they won 7:5, 4:6 and 6:3. Daniil Medvedev met at the top of the table with a 6: 3 and 6: 3 against Dominic Thiem and Jannik Sinner. Sinner defeated Francisco Cerundolo 7:5 and 6:3.

Grigor Dimitrov and Marcos Giron will open Friday's quarter-finals at 2 p.m. The last match of the day finally contest Daniel Evans and Denis Shapovalov.
