Dominic Thiem also spoke of a reward on Tuesday evening if there was actually a meeting with Daniil Medvedev in the round of 16 of the Erste Bank Open 2022. Thiem had given the chances of this as 80 percent, Medvedev added 20 with the 6: 2 and 6: 2 against Nikoloz Basilashvili.

All right: Thiem against Medvedev is entering its sixth edition, the last one was in the final of the ATP Finals 2020 in London. At that time, Medvedev narrowly won in three sets. Against a Dominic Thiem, who surfed the wave that autumn that year that he triggered with his success at the US Open in New York City. Incidentally, where match number four between Thiem and Medvedev took place - the Austrian had won it in three tight sets.

The mutual history began in St. Petersburg in 2018, when Thiem won the tie-break of the third set and then the tournament.

Thiem plays many matches, Medvedev few

The second encounter took place half a year later in Barcelona on clay. As is well known, Medvedev does not feel comfortable there, which is all the more surprising that he made it to the final. There was nothing to inherit against a Dominic Thiem in a good mood.

In the summer of 2019, Daniil Medvedev was able to write for the first time. And how. He won the Canada Masters 6-3, 6-1. However, against a Dominic Thiem, who was not fit in this encounter.

How fit the Austrian is this time remains one of the big questions for tonight. Because Thiem has played a lot of tennis in the last few weeks. In complete contrast to Daniil Medvedev, who had a strong performance in Astana up to the semi-finals, but was otherwise more concerned with the birth of his first daughter.

Here are the previous matches between Dominic Thiem and Daniil Medvedev
