Erste Bank Open Vienna: Alexander Erler is narrowly defeated by Gianluca Mager
Alexander Erler was eliminated at the beginning of the qualification for the Erste Bank Open against the Italian Gianluca Mager. Erler lost 7: 6 (2), 2: 6 and 4: 6.

Erler started strong in front of a well-filled audience in the Wiener Stadthalle, rarely got into trouble in the first set against Mager when serving on his own. And triumphed in the tie-break in front of Davis Cup captain Stefan Koubek. Erler seemed to take this momentum with him right away, at the beginning of round two he made the first break in the match.
Mager countered immediately, however, taking his opponent's service three times in the second set. Erler initially had the better chances in the decision, but Mager made the break to victory.
On Saturday, Lucas Miedler against Peter Gojowczyk and Jurij Rodionov against Kevin Anderson were also on the schedule.
