Fed Cup 2020: qualifying match against Brazil will take place in Florianópolis

Florianópolis is the venue for the Fed Cup qualifying round of the Porsche Team Germany on 7 and 8 February 2020 against Brazil. The game is played on a clay court at Costão do Santinho Resort. The winner of this encounter is allowed to travel to the Fed Cup finals, which will be held in Budapest in a new format in April.

For the new Fed Cup captain Rainer Schüttler it will be the premiere on the German bank: "This is certainly a tough away game. Switching from hard court to sand after the Australian Open is not easy, as is the time change. We will prepare intensively and our clear goal is to qualify for Budapest with the best possible team, "said Schüttler.

Germany and Brazil have faced each other in the Fed Cup three times, most recently the German team won in Prague in 1986 2-1.

The winner of the recent encounter in February will be one of eight still vacant starting places at the newly created Fed Cup Finals in the week of April 14 to 19, 2020 in Budapest. Hosts Hungary as well as this year's finalists France and Australia are sure to be there as well as the Czech Republic, which receives a wildcard.

As usual, four singles and a double are played in the qualifying round, all matches in best-of-three mode. However, the matchdays will take place on Friday and Saturday, not on the day before
