The sports event itself will take place from April 14th to 19th in the László Papp Sports Arena. "We caught a tough group with very good teams," said Fed Cup captain Rainer Schüttler. “The Czech Republic with currently three top 20 players is definitely the favorite in the group. Nevertheless, we will travel to Budapest with the best possible team and give everything. ”

The German team secured qualification for the Fed Cup final played out among twelve teams last weekend against Brazil. In Florianópolis, Laura Siegemund, Tatjana Maria, Anna-Lena Friedsam and Antonia Lottner confidently went 4: 0 as the winners. At the first Fed Cup finals in the Hungarian capital, Group D with the Czech Republic and Switzerland are waiting for completely different calibers. The eleven-time Fed Cup winner Czech Republic with top players Karolina Pliskova and Petra Kvitova has won the last six games against the DTB selection and received a wildcard for the final round in Budapest. Switzerland around the world rankings fifth Belinda Bencic had qualified with a 3-1 over Canada for the finals. Top player Bencic was surprisingly defeated by Leylah Annie Fernandez. In a direct comparison, Germany leads 4-2, even though the last time they lost was just four years ago in Leipzig.

The new Fed Cup format

In addition to the winners of the eight qualifying games (Belgium, Germany, Russia, Switzerland, Slovakia, Spain, USA and Belarus), last year's finalists (France and Australia) as well as hosts Hungary and Wildcard will be on the clay court in the Laszlo Papp Budapest Sports Arena Owner Czech Republic to start. The preliminary round will be played in four groups, each with three nations, in round robin format. The first four groups play in the semi-finals and in the final in knockout mode for the Fed Cup title. Each game consists of two singles and a double.
